The Nintendo Switch launch lineup is still a big question mark but if the latest reports are true, then The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release alongside the new console in March.
According to Eurogamer, multiple sources close to Nintendo have told the site that, at the end of last year, Japan finalized its plans and had a change of heart. Originally, Eurogamer reported Breath of the Wild was still “four to six months away”, which at the time of the report would have the new Zelda game miss the Nintendo Switch launch.
However, the same sources say the Japanese team felt the Switch needed the strongest possible launch lineup and they are confident enough to release Breath of the Wild in March in Japan and North America. Europe, on the other hand, may be a different story.
This source said that Japan had always wanted Breath of the Wild to launch in March, and had been uncomfortable waiting until later in the year. Another source told Eurogamer the decision to move ahead with March regardless of Europe was only finalised by committee at the end of last year.
This report lines up with information from CoroCoro that revealed Breath of the Wild will be released in Japan in Spring 2017.
Breath of the Wild was shown off on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (on the Nintendo Switch, no less) and it looked like a finished product. Perhaps Nintendo is waiting to surprise some folks with the announcement of the Breath of the Wild release date during the Switch presentation next week, where the launch lineup for Nintendo’s hybrid console will likely be announced, along with the official release date and price.
