Arthur Darvill is not leaving Legends of Tomorrow . His character, Rip Hunter, will be back if these set photos are an accurate indication. An tweet from HollywoodNorth.Buzz shows Rip Hunter dressed as a Redcoat. The source says the image is from Legends Season 2 episode 11, “Turncoat,” which airs after midseason break.
The set photo could be misleading. It doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see Rip Hunter until episode 11. In fact, Marc Guggenheim told TV Guide last month that viewers will know where Rip is before the Legends do.
The episode title, “Turncoat,” suggested a traitor, or betrayal, on the Waverider. But these photos prove the title also refers to the Revolutionary War. Benedict Arnold is the most famous turncoat of the American Revolution, as he conspired with the British against George Washington and the Bluecoats. Rip appears to be the leading the charge in those photos. Whatever he’s doing, you can best believe it has something to do with changing or protecting history.
Since Rip has been gone, Sara has been acting as Captain. But according to Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who plays Vixen on the series, Rip may not be ready to lead the team when he returns.
“He does come back, just not necessarily the Rip that we remember,” she told Cinema Blend. “That’s sort of … a big part of the second half of the season.”
It’s also possible that whatever message The Flash left for Rip has something to do with his whereabouts and personal mission. We’ll find out more about that message from 2056 in the “Invasion!” crossover this week on The CW. What do you think Rip’s been up to? Let us know in the comments below!
