Magic: The Gathering revealed that its offering everyone a new way to play the game. Titled as Jumpstart, it not only allows players to mash themes throughout the game's history, but even skips the deckbuilding part. Basically, it takes the best of what Limited and Constructed has to offer and combined them to become a new play experience.
So how does it work? At its core, Jumpstart is all about grabbing two boosters, shuffling them together, and then you're good to go. However, at the same time it does offer a different experience.
Each Jumpstart booster has 20 cards, with all cards fitting a theme. Themes range from the familiar, like Garruk, to the curious, like Doctor. When these two themes are mashed up, you get Doctor Garruk. The regular packs have multiple variations for their cards, but there's also going to be special Mythic Rare packs that don't have any variations.
Below are the key things to remember about this new play experience:
- Each booster contains 20 cards centered on a theme
- The theme each booster contains is randomized
- Each themed 20 cards is going to be sealed inside the pack and labeled.
- One in three boosters includes an extra rare.
- It's loaded with reprints.
- Jumpstart introduces 37 new cards to the game.
- These are not going to be Standard-, Pioneer-, or Modern-legal cards.
- They are legal in Legacy, Vintage, and Commander.
- It's closely tied to Core Set 2021.
- While they share a lot of content, Jumpstart is a stand-alone product.
- All cards are legal in Eternal formats
- Legacy
- Vintage
- Commander
- Every pack includes one basic land with art that matches the pack's theme.
- A few of them use thematically appropriate lands from M21
- Most of them use brand-new themed land art created for Jumpstart.
Jumpstart is set to be released on July 3. Before that, there's going to be a prerelease for this new product from June 20 to June 21. Jumpstart is going to arrive to MTG Arena within the year and is going to be legal in Historic.
