With E3 nearly upon us, news regarding the roster of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite will likely be revealed soon, but a supposed leak has sprung up online that confirms the base roster of the fighting game and some DLC characters.
In a NeoGaf post, a user going by the name Ryce has “received permission” from a source to list every fighter in the Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite roster. And before you dismiss this leak as fake, this is the same user who leaked the existence of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite before its official announcement.
If you recall, this is the same report that stated there won’t be any mutants on the Marvel side of MvC and this leaked roster list supports that claim. There’s also a lack of Fantastic Four characters, like Doctor Doom, included in the list.
Here’s the supposed leak of the MvC Infinite roster with already confirmed characters in bold.
Capcom:
Arthur
Chris Redfield
Chun-Li
Dante
Firebrand
Jedah
Monster Hunter
Morrigan
Nemesis
Ryu
Spencer
Strider Hiryu
Mega Man X
Marvel:
Ant-Man
Captain America
Captain Marvel
Doctor Strange
Gamora
Hawkeye
Hulk
Iron Man
Nova
Rocket/Groot
Spider-Man
Thanos
Thor
Ultron
An interesting point to make regarding Rocket/Groot is the leaker isn’t sure if Groot will be an assist for Rocket Raccoon or if both of them will appear on screen. Rocket/Groot was exactly how the character was named to them.
The leaker does say there is a spot open on the Capcom side that was not revealed to them, and they predict Frank West from the Dead Rising series will make a return. The leak also revealed that Venom will be one of the first DLC characters.
So what should fans make of this list? For me, the roster seems very light especially on the Marvel side. There are so many characters that Capcom could have pulled from both legacy and new that are just not here.
Thor, Rocket, Nova, Captain America, Spider-Man, Hawkeye and Doctor Strange were all in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and it just feels weird that legacy characters like Wolverine and Magneto are not in this game, just because they are mutants and Marvel has beef with Fox. Even Marvel’s new characters aren’t all that new. Outside of Gamora, Thanos was in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Ant-Man appeared briefly in Hawkeye’s finishing move.
On the Capcom side, the lack of legacy characters like Phoenix Wright and Okami is odd but I can appreciate the inclusion of some notable newcomers in Jedah and Monster Hunter. Perhaps Capcom will really boost the roster via DLC and there is a chance X-Men and Fantastic Four characters (RIP Doctor Doom) can show up post-launch.
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is slated to release Sept. 19.
