Publisher Square Enix and developers Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have just announced the beta dates for the upcoming superhero action-adventure title Marvel’s Avengers.
The dates are as follows:
- August 7: Start of beta access for those who pre-ordered for the PlayStation 4
- August 14: Start of beta access for Xbox One and PC pre-orders. The open beta access for the PlayStation 4 will also start on the same date.
- August 21: Start of open beta access for all platforms.
Square Enix has also announced that the second War Table presentation for Marvel’s Avengers will air just over a week before the start of the beta access period. It is scheduled to premiere on July 29 starting 1:00 PM EST.
To conclude the announcement, Marvel’s Avengers creative director Shaun Escayg spoke with IGN and said that the beta will include partial campaign content, co-op missions, mechanics of hero progression, and exploration in the game’s War Zone and Drop Zones. This will allow players to “experience most of things that you’ll be doing in the full game.” Whether progress accrued by players in the beta phase will carry over towards the game’s launch day version is still unconfirmed, but looking at past beta periods for other games, is unlikely.
We’ve been receiving tons and tons of news over the past few weeks now that the release date for Marvel’s Avengers is inching closer and closer. Just in the past month we have already been shown snippets of gameplay, particularly those of the Thunder God, Thor. The game’s main villain has also been revealed to be MODOK, a particularly fearsome Marvel villain who's name stands for Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing. And last but not least, good newsis here in the form of confirmation from Square Enix that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be upgradeable for free to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions once the consoles launch this coming holiday. All progress will also be carried over to the new consoles and cross-play between generations has also been guaranteed.
Marvel’s Avengers will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Stadia on September 4.
