Marvel's Avengers has already confirmed that the game will be featuring a strong lineup of playable characters at launch, including the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, and Black Widow. However, that isn't the entire lineup. Today, Marvel's Avengers dropped a trailer that finally confirmed Hawkeye. Hawkeye will be the first free post-launch hero joining the ranks of the Avengers.
It is said that Hawkeye will have his own set of stories that will be separate from the main campaign. The stories can be experienced either solo or along with a friend in co-op mode. Check out the Hawkeye reveal trailer below:
The Hawkeye portrayed in Marvel's Avengers will be heavily inspired by the Matt Fraction-David Aja Hawkeye comic book.
"You asked for him, and we're thrilled to bring him to you. When we started working on Hawkeye, the first thing we did was find the best comics and pull ideas that would best fit into our post A-Day universe," developer Crystal Dynamics said in the Marvel's Avengers War Table gameplay livestream. "One of our favorite runs is writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja's "My Life as a Weapon," and we've taken some exciting ideas from it."
Crystal Dynamics also hinted at three other post-launch heroes that will be joining the Avengers. Unfortunately, the developer did not disclose who these heroes are going to be. Nonetheless, we can take a wild guess as to who these heroes could be. It's highly likely that Ant-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange could be among the three undisclosed heroes.
During the livestream, the developer also talked about the upcoming Marvel's Avengers beta. The beta version of the game will allow players to try out four heroes -- Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. The upcoming beta will include the game's prologue, two story missions, and a bunch of co-op missions. Here's some Marvel's Avengers beta footage:
The beta will run throughout August, but it will start on different dates depending on your platform. In case you have pre-ordered the game, you'll gain early access to the beta.
Here's when the beta for Marvel's Avengers will go live:
- August 7 – PS4 pre-order Beta access begins.
- August 14 – Xbox One and PC pre-order beta access begins, PS4 open beta also begins.
- August 21 - Open beta across all platforms begins.
Marvel's Avengers will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4. The game will also launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X later this year.
