The controversial ending to Mass Effect 3 may have left a sour taste in the mouths of fans. After playing through three long games, making many tough decisions and creating a unique story, ultimately it all came down to one of three choices the player had to make, negating just about everything up to that point. Well guess what, Mass Effect fans? None of that matters moving forward.
In an interview with Eurogamer, BioWare studio boss Aaryn Flynn and Mass Effect creative Mac Walters revealed that Mass Effect: Andromeda will not take Mass Effect 3’s ending choice into consideration.
"We acknowledged [the final choice you make] in the endings of Mass Effect 3 and I think that's where we want to leave it for now," Flynn said. "We want this to be a new story and it would be very hard to say it's a new story but also that you need to understand how [the past trilogy] ended."
This decision also makes sense in the story of Mass Effect 3. Regardless of which option was chosen, the results were spread through the Mass Effect relays, meaning it’s been confined to the Milky Way galaxy. Seeing as how Mass Effect: Andromeda isn’t in the Milky Way galaxy, it doesn’t matter which choice was picked.
As for other Mass Effect: Andromeda news, not much was shown during E3 but plenty of information was released. We know for a fact the new playable character’s name is Ryder, similar to how the original Mass Effect trilogy’s character was Shepard. Ryder will also default to being a female, but players can change to be a male if they prefer. The name of the new ship has also been revealed to be the Tempest.
