The gaming community was in an uproar last week at E3 with the announcement of Baldur’s Gate 3 under the development of Larian Studios. Baldur’s Gate 3 is well underway, and while fans can’t wait to find out as much as they can about the upcoming sequel, it seems developer Larian Studios can’t help but tease the gaming community.
In an interview with VG247, Larian Studios boss Swen Vicke teased the possibility of the return of Minsc and Boo. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Minsc and Boo are a ranger duo that accompanied players in Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Shadow of Amn, both times proving their loyalty and love for their companions. Minsc is a ranger from Rasheman, and Boo, of course, is his anima companion, a miniature giant space hamster.
Specifically, Vicke said “If you look at what the Fifth Edition has done, characters like Boo and Minsc are still alive. Bhaal and maybe a couple of other guys are still around. What’s gonna happen with that? You’re gonna discover when you play BG3.”
In no official capacity did Vicke announce the return of Minsc and Boo, but if his goal was to whet our appetites for Baldur’s Gate 3, then he’s succeeded in that and then some. It’s unlikely we’ll find out more about Minsc and Boo any time soon, but we’re more than willing to wait and see when Baldur’s Gate 3 comes out later this year.
The Baldur’s Gate franchise is the grandaddy of computer role-playing games. The first title, Baldur’s Gate launched in 1998 (21 years ago) and the critically-acclaimed sequel, Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, launched two years later in 2000. Between these two games, fans have had to wait nearly two decades to find out what happens next in the Dungeons & Dragons world of Baldur’s Gate, but it seems the wait is nearly over. On top of that, fans were excited to know that Larian Studios will be the company developing Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios is likely the best choice for Baldur’s Gate 3, especially with their work on the award-winning cRPG franchise Divinity.
