We are at the dawning of a new Major League Baseball season where for the first time in 108 years, the Chicago Cubs are the defending champions. There were many moves made during the MLB offseason such as Chris Sale becoming a Red Sox, the Cubs picking up Wade Davis as their closer and Yoenis Cespedes staying with the Mets. Needless to say, the 2017 baseball season will be exciting.
CBS Sports simulated the 2017 MLB season using MLB The Show 17 and the results were surprising. Before we get to the playoffs and who walked out as the World Series champions, the All-Star Game is set to take place in Miami, Florida. This is the first year since 2002 that this year’s All-Star Game will not give home-field advantage to the winning league in the World Series. For the 2017 All-Star Game, here are the starters for the game based on the MLB The Show 17 simulation.
National League
C Buster Posey (Giants), 1B Wil Myers (Padres), 2B Jose Peraza (Reds), 3B Justin Turner (Dodgers), SS Corey Seager (Dodgers), LF Ryan Braun (Brewers), CF A.J. Pollock (Diamondbacks), RF Giancarlo Stanton (Marlins), SP Max Scherzer (Nationals)
American League
C Jonathan Lucroy (Rangers), 1B Edwin Encarnacion (Indians), 2B Robinson Cano (Mariners), 3B Adrian Beltre (Rangers), SS Elvis Andrus (Rangers), LF Corey Dickerson (Rays), CF Mike Trout (Angels), RF Mookie Betts (Red Sox), Corey Kluber (Indians)
Every year Sony attempts to adjust the trade logic in MLB The Show 17 to make CPU trades more realistic. The trades in this simulation shows the improved trade logic as every trade that was made was true to life. If you are trading a secondary player, there is no reason for you to receive a superstar in exchange for that secondary player. Here were two of the biggest trades that occurred in the season simulation. Are these trades fair?
Orioles get: SP Chris Archer | Rays get: 2B Jonathan Schoop, CF Adam Jones, RP Tyler Clippard
White Sox get: CF Charlie Blackmon | Rockies get: RP Nate Jones, SS Tyler Saladino, SP Cory Luebke
Now on to the most important part of the simulation. The baseball season is 162 games long and at the end of the regular season, only twelve teams make the playoffs. In the American League the Red Sox, Indians and Rangers were the division winners while the Tigers and Astros were the wild card recipients. For the National League, the Nationals, Cubs and Dodgers were division winners as the Mets and Giants earned Wild Card spots.
The playoffs featured four series going the maximum amount of games (five games in the Divisional Round and seven games for the remainder of the playoffs). As you move through the playoffs, stamina begins to play a role in playoff games in MLB The Show 17 as your players never get to 100 percent with games every other day and no off days for your stars. You have to field your best lineups every night during the playoffs or you will eliminated quickly. Here is how the playoffs shook out in the MLB The Show 17 season simulation.
The New York Mets, who did not win the NL East and only received a wild card berth, fought through the playoffs to become the 2017 World Series Champions. En route to their championship, the Mets defeated two teams that finished the regular season with 100 wins, which made their run to World Series even more impressive. In the end, the Mets defeated the Red Sox in seven games, the same way they defeated the Red Sox in the 1986 World Series.
Here are the season awards that were given out in MLB The Show 17 season simulation.
