Capcom released more than 20 minutes of Monster Hunter World gameplay this week, featuring the same portion of the game shown to E3 attendees last week, giving those who couldn’t make the trek to Los Angeles a chance to see the next big addition to the series. It didn’t include all the same sights from our theater demo but the new gameplay footage should still give most fans a better understanding of the changes we’ll see in Monster Hunter World .
One of the most obvious changes to the core Monster Hunter formula will be the introduction of a seamless world. Previous entries in the series have included loading screens anytime players traveled to a new section of the map. It was quite a headache when fighting monsters prone to retreating, one we’re happy to see alleviated in MHW . The live stream also gives fans a great look at the food chain that will dictate many inter-species interactions. A Great Jagras is seen voraciously consuming an Aptonoth (in one bite!) before regurgitating bits of the meal for its young back at the nest.
Later sections of the demonstration also give fans a chance to see what happens when three of the game’s largest predators are drawn to the same location. Spontaneous kaiju battles and fewer loading screens aren’t the only draw. A number of combat changes will be introduced in MHW , including a new mechanic that makes it easier for players to swap weapons as needed. Monster Hunter World will also let players break line of sight with larger monsters to try and sneak up on them (for extra and/or targeted damage) or to sneak away and heal up.
For an early look at Monster Hunter World , set aside 20 minutes to watch the gameplay shown during Capcom’s latest developer live stream. Then head down to the comments section and let us know what changes you’re hoping to see in Monster Hunter World when the franchise heads to PC and consoles next year.
