Each Monster Hunter game contains different types of weapons and the latest game, Monster Hunter: World, has a whopping 14 different weapon types to choose from.
But which weapon is right for you? Capcom has released three new trailers that showcase what each type of weapon does and the situations in which you may want to use them. There are three weapon types in Monster Hunter: World, Light, Heavy and Technical, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.
Of course, each quest and monster may warrant a change mid-quest, but if you’re able to master one weapon type you’ll be ahead of the curve when the game ships in 2018. So without further ado, here are the three categories of weapons in Monster Hunter: World.
LIGHT WEAPONS
Sword and Shield - The sword and shield combo can allow players to still use healing items and traps while having a shield up . This can save you a lot of time in the midst of battle, not to mention you can still use your slinger when you sword and shield are drawn.
Dual Blades - Overwhelm monsters with a vicious combo of attacks. Activating Demon Mode will unlock the Dual Blades’ true potential to dole out as much damage as possible.
Long Sword - This blade allows players to perform lengthy combos from a distance and raises attack with the spirit blade (one of the Long Sword options).
Light Bowgun - Long-ranged weapon that specializes in rapid fire. You can support your hunting party with traps.
HEAVY WEAPONS
Great Sword - What it lacks in mobility, the Great Sword makes up for in power. Its long range and charged ability lets you deal massive damage to monsters.
Hammer - Like the Great Sword, hammers don’t allow for great mobility, but this weapon can stun monsters allowing your hunting party to go in for the kill.
Lance - Lance users also carry a shield, allowing for great offensive and defensive capabilities. You can hold your shield up to counter with thrusts.
Gunlance - Like the Lance, this weapon has great defensive and offensive capabilities. The Gunlance also allows players to hit from long-range and let off charged shots.
Heavy Bowgun - You won’t be as mobile using the Heavy Bowgun than you would when you use the Light Bowgun, but you’ll have a lot more artillery at your disposal. Not just gunshots, but missiles and sniper shots.
TECHNICAL WEAPONS
Switch Axe - Can transform between a long-range axe and a swift sword. When in sword mode, you can charge up an elemental attack to deal devastating damage.
Charge Blade - A shield and sword variant, this weapon can swap between a shield and sword combo to a huge axe. The key is to store energy in shield and sword mode and then unleash a powerful attack in the axe mode.
Insect Glaive - For players who like to take the fight to the skies, the Insect Glaive has incredible mobility and can attack from multiple angles. You can also gather Kinsects to boost your stats while fighting.
