Monster Strike, an iOS and Android freemium game where players must use the game’s physics to succeed, has launched a new marketing campaign that features Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). The game combines genres such as RPGs and cooperative multiplayer with strategy-based gameplay.
Developed by Mixi, Monster Strike has an average daily revenue of over $4.2 million and is very popular in Japan, where the game originally launched in 2013. According to Develop-Online, almost 100 percent of the game’s revenue and sales came from its Japan players.
“Mobile gaming has become less and less social, isolating individual players from the people around them and focusing all of their attention onto a tiny screen with the exclusion of the people around them,” said Mixi President Hiroki Morita. “Monster Strike is designed to bring groups of people together in a fun, social setting, which is reflected in our campaign that sees Andy Samberg encouraging people to actually engage and play in the same space.”
There are four gameplay options in Monster Strike: Solo and Co-op modes, and then Normal or Event Quests. Event Quests are only available for a short period of time, but often feature rare monsters players can add to their collection, while the Normal Quest rewards players with experience boosters and other rare modifier objects.
In the same way Pokemon evolve, monsters in Monster Strike can be transformed into higher, more powerful monsters once the appropriate level has been reached and certain items are collected. Stats wise, each monster in Monster Strike has health points and attack power, as well a speed statistic that determines how quickly a monster can attack in a single turn.
Monster Strike derives revenue by selling Orbs in the in-game store that give players the chance to get rare monsters, continue on failed missions, reenergize tired monsters or increase the number of possible monsters a player can have at one time.
As part of the new promotional campaign, Monster Strike is running a raffle to send a pizza food truck to one lucky fan’s school or office who likes a Monster Strike video on Facebook.
