Moviegoers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of new Star Wars footage in some shape or form. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is first in line to debut a new trailer, but fans have not forgotten about the main story they’ve been following for almost 40 years. Star Wars: Episode 8 is already drawing hype despite the film’s release being pushed back to December 2017. That’s not stopping production from getting underway, however.
Reports are coming in from Dubrovnik, Croatia, where Episode 8 is said to be filming currently. Several set photos revealing a medieval-esque landscape have already emerged. Only the neon lights surrounding the Dubrovnik buildings serve as a reminder that Star Wars, with its futuristic technology, is in the midst of shooting there. Now a couple more photos from Dubrovnik have turned up, showcasing the Star Wars set at night for the first time. Take a look at the early stages of Episode 8 ’s production, below:
‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Set Photos
These photos were originally posted by Making Star Wars. As you can see, the production team really nailed the Star Wars aesthetic with the installation of neon lighting in Dubrovnik. It matches the spacey tone and looks like the outside of a cantina filled with galactic aliens. The streets of Dubrovnik are clear and ready to host a film crew at any moment. Hopefully this is an indicator that production will begin shortly.
There are rumors that Dubrovnik will be the setting of a “night chase.” That would explain the neon lighting, although Daisy Ridley (Rey) debunked claims of her taking part with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker). Either way, it looks like things are set to take off in Croatia, and we can’t wait to see the result.
Star Wars: Episode 8 is set to arrive in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
