USA Network announced the release date for premiere of Mr. Robot season 2 at long last Wednesday: It seems the Sam Esmail’s Golden Globe winning series will be returning July 13 at 10 p.m. EST. In a departure from season 1, Esmail has not only written every episode of Mr. Robot season 2, but is also directing each episode.
Mr. Robot season 2 is currently filming in New York City, out of a Williamsburg studio. The current production schedule has three or four episodes being filmed each week, with Esmail editing the episodes during the weekend before delivering them to USA Network for final approval. Only two small breaks have planned to break up the production cycle, but the season 2 release date confirmation from USA Network means that Esmail is managing his responsibilities.
Episode 1 of the Mr. Robot season 2 will pick up where season 1 ended: Dealing with the aftermath of fsociety’s hack on Evil Corp’s data servers, the curious question about what exactly to Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström) and illuminati-esque meeting that took place between Whiterose and Evil Corp’s CEO uring a small teaser that ran after the credits of the last episode of season 1.
Grace Gummer is joining the show as an FBI agent, leading to speculation that season 2 will focus on the repercussions of fsociety’s actions, as well as Craig Robinson, who will be playing a friendly drug dealer (Possibly the one that got him hooked on heroin?), Joey Bada$$, who will be playing a philosophical new friend, and Chris Conroy, a new love interest for Tyrell’s wife, Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Corneliussen).
