Narcos Season 2 will see the unfortunate demise of Wagner Moura’s Pablo Escobar, according to a report coming out of Colombia. TMZ is reporting that the producers of Netflix’s hit cocaine cartel drama chased down the person living under the rooftop where the real Escobar was shot to death by security forces, but were denied filming access.
According to TMZ’s Medellin-based sources, the producers were told "No way, José" by the renter in question, supposedly out of respect for the community and the actual owners of the property. Producers eventually had to convince some other guy with a similar rooftop in Medellin to allow them to shoot Escobar’s death scene.
A previous interview with Eric Newman, one of the two executive producers charged with running the show, revealed that Netflix’s plans to have Escobar killed in Season 2. Because so much time was covered during the first season of the show, a disportionate amount of time now has to be covered before the end of Season 2.
“He will die. The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in Season One. At the point of Escobar’s escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live,” Newman said to Slash Film. “That’s not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending.”
Narcos Season 2 is currently in production in Colombia. The show’s sophomore attempt is expected to be released sometime in August 2016.
