After several developers decided to include crossplay in their games, EA has also joined the party by bringing crossplay support to Need For Speed: Heat. NFS Heat will be EA's first game to ever support crossplay. The update will allow PC players who own the game via Origin or Steam to play together with players on Xbox One and PlayStation 5.
Once you've opted in to compete against your friends on other platforms, you'll be able to find them via a Find Players menu. However, your friends need to opt-in for challenges as well. You'll be able to see your friends through the EA Friends section in the Party Menu.
EA and Criterion have also revealed that this will be the last patch for Need for Speed: Heat. This also hints towards Criterion setting its eyes on the next Need for Speed game. The update will become available in the EA Access and Origin Access Basic Vault on June 16. On a similar note, EA's game showcase will also begin two days after the patch release. This is where racing fans can hope to gain some new information regarding the next Need for Speed game, along with other EA titles.
Recently, we have been seeing many games offering crossplay support and Sony also dropped restrictions on crossplay in 2019. However, we aren't sure yet whether EA will adopt the crossplay feature to the other titles such as FIFA, Madden and Apex Legends.
"As we at Criterion shift gears into the future with full focus on developing the next Need for Speed game, this will be the final update for Need for Speed: Heat," Matt Webster from Criterion said in a post. "Since the launch of Need for Speed: Heat and as players continue to tear it up in Palm City, we're listening to what you love about this experience, and what you all believe could be even better. With these insights, we have a terrific foundation to create the most expressive, most socially connected, action-packed game yet for Need for Speed fans and beyond."
