Alien will return to the video game world with a new shooter developed by Cold Iron Studios and FoxNext Games. Details are scarce so far, but we know the game will be set somewhere in the Alien cinematic universe.
Founded in 2015, Cold Iron Studios is a relatively new developer known for its work on MMOs. Members of the team have previously worked on big-name games such as Metroid Prime 3, BioShock Infinite and City of Heroes.
“Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games,” Aaron Loeb, the president of studios at FoxNext Games, said in a press release. “I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.”
FoxNext, a division of 20th Century Fox, has overseen a number of games already. Most are mobile titles such as The Simpsons Tapped Out and Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff, but FoxNext also helped develop the acclaimed Alien: Isolation. The studio’s plan to release this new Alien shooter for PC and consoles suggests it will probably be more like Isolation than the other games.
“We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe,” Cold Iron’s CEO, Craig Zinkievich, said in the statement. “Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.”
Hopefully this new Alien shooter will be more like the stellar Isolation than the horrid Aliens: Colonial Marines.
