Two new cards have been revealed for the next Hearthstone expansion Whispers of the Old Gods . First up is Ancient Shieldbearer , a seven mana neutral minion whose Battlecry gives ten armor if your C’thun has at least 10 attack. For a seven mana minion his stats are pretty bad, a little more than Shieldmaiden , but she is two mana less and her armor has no summoning condition. I explained in a previous article how easy it is to get C’thun to 10 attack, but it might not be worth having more than one copy of this giant shield with a Sauron eye in your deck.
We don’t know the official English name of the next card, since it was released on a Chinese fan site , and names tend to get lost in translation. C’thun’s Minion - as it’s been called - is a four mana 4/2 with Divine Shield and a Battlecry that gives C’thun +2/+2 no matter where he is. It’s the same effect as Beckoner of Evil , though I doubt it will see as much play since it costs two mana more. This new card has relatively weak stats, though the Divine Shield helps mitigate some of its weaknesses. It’s like a slightly better Scarlet Crusader, which has never seen competitive play, outside of arena.
Murals have also started to pop up around the world, showing new card art we haven’t seen before. They are in Berlin, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Melbourne, and they aren’t even all out yet.. My personal favorite is the new Fen Creeper , which switches the dynamic of the original one. The girl is no longer the bait for the monster beneath, she’s now controlling the monster who just wants to play with the butterflies.
