Middle-earth: Shadow of War ’s tribe introductions continue this week with our first look at another melee faction from Sauron’s army. And the newest tribe looks to mix the battle-readiness of the Marauders with the ferocity and devastation of the Terror tribe. Meet the Warmongers.
According to a press release from Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, the Warmonger tribe lives for battle. They prefer it so much that rank and file Warmonger orcs believe “every moment not spent in battle is a moment wasted.” Where the Marauders focus on the accumulation of wealth, entering battle for the sole purpose of filling their own vaults, the Warmonger tribes seeks out battle for nothing other than the thrills. The Warmonger tribe’s armor looks to be some of the sturdiest we’ll see in Shadow of War , making them even more formidable in battle. They also seem to be big fans of using fire to repel invaders.
It’s the seventh orc tribe we’ve “met” since the trailer series began in August. Each faction’s focus gives them unique strengths and weaknesses, traits which also have an impact on the game world. Players will notice distinct changes to the environment in the areas near captured keeps, dictated by the tribe Talion leaves in charge. Some, like the Machine tribe, fortify their keeps and build additional defenses into the surrounding countryside. The Warmonger tribe seems to have a more subtle impact, with relatively little decor on their keeps, but that sort of makes sense for a roaming band of orcs that relishes fighting above all else.
For more on the various tribes we’ll meet in Shadow of War , take a few minutes to revisit all of the trailers released in recent weeks. Then head down to the comments and let us know which tribe(s) you’ll align Talion with when Shadow of War hits stores next month.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is headed to PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts Oct. 17.
