NieR: Automata fans around the globe are still struggling with the a less-than-stellar PC port of the critically-acclaimed action RPG. But a new statement from PlatinumGames confirms the studio is well aware of the issues and hard at work on fixes for the many, many problems facing PC gamers in the NieR: Automata community. And a fellow fan is providing unofficial fixes for some of the game’s most egregious problems in the interim.
A cornucopia of problems with the PC port of NieR: Automata have emerged in the days since the game made its Steam debut. Performance issues seem to be the biggest problem, ranging from framerate stutters to outright crashes and freezes, but a megathread on the NieR subreddit outlines dozens of other issues. The good news is PlatinumGames is aware of the problems being encoutnered by NieR: Automata players. The bad news is that a new statement from the studio doesn’t offer any timeline for the first round of fixes.
Here’s what Platinum had to say on Steam:
We are happy so many are enjoying the game. We wanted to let you know that we appreciate all your feedback and are investigating the issues that have been reported.
Please stay tuned for updates.
In the interim, many players are relying on an unofficial fix from Andon ‘Kaldaien’ Coleman, a modder known for helping patch up a variety of problematic PC ports, including Dark Souls 3 and Disgaea. Kaldaien released FixAutomataRes on Sunday and has continued to iterate on the unofficial fix throughout the week. The latest build (v 0.1.2) also lets players adjust NieR’s global illumination shader settings; a change that delivered significantly improved framerates for many reddit users.
