It appears Nintendo is trying to find a way to cross the line between reality and video games. The video game company has partnered with Lunchables in the hopes of making lunch playful with some of its well-known video game characters.
Beginning September 1 and running all the way to December 31, characters from different Nintendo Switch games are going to appear in select Lunchables packages. What games, you ask? This promotion includes, among others, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Odyssey, and Splatoon 2.
There is also the chance to get the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass DLC.
That’s not all, as Lunchables is also giving fans the chance to win Nintendo Switch prize packs during the Lunchables Gaming Together Giveaway.
How it works is people must first buy special Nintendo-themed Lunchables packages. Inside each box is a code that can be redeemed for the chance to win a Nintendo Switch prize pack. Prize winners get a Nintendo Switch system along with a choice of two download codes for select digital Nintendo Switch content. For this promotion, there’s a total of 750 Nintendo Switch prize packages to be given away.
Even if you don’t get the top prize, there’s still 100 My Nintendo Platinum points that are awarded to everyone once they redeem a code.
In a statement released to the press, Nick Chavez of Nintendo of America revealed that they hope to be able “to bring the joy of Nintendo characters to even more families across the U.S.” through the continued partnership with Lunchables. Chavez went on to say that when it came to making lunchtime fun, Lunchables always had a special approach and that they are excited that kids and parents can enjoy lunch “with Nintendo characters by their side.”
Meanwhile Katie Hunstad over at Kraft Heinz share that they too are excited at the chance to partner again with Nintendo and that for this year they have added “new ways to get in on the Lunchables Gaming Together Giveaway, using recognizable characters to give fans even more lunchtime fun.”
It’s amusing to think that this news comes at the heels of Minecraft's release of a breakfast cereal, which you can read about here. So we have breakfast with Minecraft and then lunch with Nintendo. Who do you think is inviting us over for dinner?
