Nintendo is looking to 2016 to continue its upward momentum of releasing great games.. With the confirmed existence of the Nintendo NX and the company’s focus on the mobile gaming market, Nintendo is poised to make a big splash in the coming year.
And while Nintendo has come out and said it will give more information in June, the rumors of what the next Nintendo console actually is or when it will release have been endless.
UPDATE: Nintendo has provided iDigitalTimes with the following statement regarding the rumors: “We have nothing to announce on this topic.”
The next Nintendo NX release date rumor comes from NintenGen and it has some interesting information regarding Nintendo’s plans for 2016, specifically the holiday release of the home console. The site claims to have been contacted by an inside source (who wished to remain anonymous) so the following info is far from reliable, but it certainly touches on the biggest questions Nintendo fans have in mind for 2016. Are we getting a new console? And will it come with a new Zelda? From the NintenGen report:
I can confirm that the Nintendo NX is definitely launching in 2016 and Zelda NX will be a launch window release, so it could either launch on NX or release shortly after the release of the NX. Either way Nintendo is trying to release Zelda Wii U and Zelda NX at the same time period for the holiday season 2016. Also, no other launch games were revealed to me for the NX at this time, but the source informed me that they will confirm more information if possible in the future. The source at Nintendo is not able to give details on exactly what the NX is but since Zelda is definitely on the system it heavily indicates that it is a home console.
So according to this site’s “source” within Nintendo, the Nintendo NX will be released for the holiday season with the brand new Zelda game coming to the console sometime after its release. The Zelda Wii U coming to the NX rumor makes sense considering Nintendo did the same thing with Twilight Princess.
And the Wall Street Journal has previously reported that the NX is expected to release in 2016 after a research firm confirmed Nintendo increased the shipment of flat-panel displays. There’s also a report that Nintendo plans to launch the NX before the end of its fiscal year, which ends March 2017. This would suggest that a holiday 2016 release date is in sight
Again, all of these reports are unconfirmed but we have reached out to Nintendo for comment and will update.
