One of the biggest gripes about the Nintendo Switch has been the lack of things to do outside of playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

A noticeable omission from the hybrid console was the lack of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, and also the lack of a web browser, something even the Wii had back in the day. Nintendo revealed there won’t be multimedia functions at launch but now that the launch date is behind us, when can fans expect to use their Switches for more than just gaming?

In an interview with The Washington Post , Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime made it clear that the Nintendo Switch is a “gaming device” and the focus will remain on the gaming side.

“What I would say is this: We built the Nintendo Switch to be a world-class gaming device, meaning we want you first and foremost to play games on the system and have an incredibly fun experience.

We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time. In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.”

The fact that Nintendo is in talks with Netflix and the like is a promising sign that your hybrid console will be able to stream movies and television shows, but when can gamers expect these features to come to the Switch?

Nintendo will begin charging for gamers to use the internet service starting this fall, so then would be a good time to give those who pay more for their dollars but we’ll have to wait and see.

Would you use your Nintendo Switch to watch Netflix and other streaming services? When do you expect it to come to the console? Sound off in the comments section below.
