There isn't a game that needs an update more desperately than No Man's Sky and finally, Hello Games announced on its site the first update will be slated to arrive this week. Via the press release, the new DLC is called the "Foundation Update" and will not only add a new base building element to the game, but is also an update that puts "in place a foundation for things to come."
This is a major sigh of relief for fans of No Man's Sky as the team at Hello Games did not left many clues on what they've been working on since the game launched on Sept. 23.
"The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic," wrote Hello Games. "We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about."
Hello games also mentioned that the No Man's Sky Foundation Update has taken the team nine weeks to develop, test and certify. That said, the team emphasized the update won't be the game's biggest and is only the "start of something."
While I'm glad the team is trying to do right by its fans, the effort might be too little, too late. No Man's Sky was cursed with big promises prior to release, a disappointing final product and a lack of communication and accountability from the studio since. What's more, unhappy gamers tipped No Man's Sky for several salty nominations ahead of the 2016 Steam Awards. In fact, fans that are participating in the Steam Awards have created some special categories just for No Man's Sky, including "Refund of the Year," "Biggest Disappointment Ever" and "One Man's Lie."
