PlayStation and Xbox fans may never get a chance to buy a proper Zelda game for their chosen platform(s). But a pretty good stand-in for Nintendo’s beloved franchise is heading to both PS4 and Xbox One next month. Have you heard of Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas?
For those who aren’t familiar, Oceanhorn is an action-adventure game that casts players as a young boy searching the Uncharted Seas for his missing father. The game combines traditional combat mechanics with puzzle-solving and exploration in a manner that should immediately feel familiar to any longtime fan of the Zelda franchise. As you may have guessed, given Oceanhorn’s island setting, there’s also plenty of sailing to be done. Developer FDG Entertainment cites several influences, like the Final Fantasy series, but it would be impossible not to see the influence of The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker in Oceanhorn’s framework.
Over the course of the game, players will sail from one island to the next, fighting enemies, finding new tools and exploring dungeons. And, of course, there will be a handful of boss encounters to deal with. Oceanhorn isn’t very long, clocking in around 15 hours for the average player, but the reception from fans and critics has been mostly positive since the game hit Steam last March.
