We might get to see The Last of Us 2 released this year, if an insider is to be believed.
This year is looking pretty bleak for PlayStation exclusives. We finally got to see and experience Days Gone, and while it was certainly a commercial success, it was ultimately middling when it came to reviews. The rest of 2019 features just Catherine: Full Body and Judgement as confirmed exclusive titles that have actual release dates, while titles like Death Stranding and Ghosts of Tsushima are nowhere to be seen. Then, there is of course probably the one that gets the most attention – The Last of Us 2. If insider data is true, then we might actually see a release sooner than we thought.
While the previous rumors stemmed from unconfirmed store listings, this new one comes straight from the words of a well-known games industry insider going by the name of Aokiji. This insider is also the one responsible for the eerily accurate leak of Sony’s very first State of Play internet show quite some time before its initial announcement earlier this year. Therefore, it might seem entirely plausible that the next piece of info coming from him might actually hold some substance.
It all started with a ResetEra thread in which the discussion was about the potential release date of The Last of Us 2. Aokiji went into the thread and commented the following words, which sparked some hype among the fellow members who were in the thread:
Considering we’re getting an official TLOU2 update before E3, would be really weird if it wasn’t 2019 now wouldn’t it
E3, of course, is still more than a month away, so there is plenty of time for an update to happen, especially within this month. What’s likely is that we will be seeing another State of Play, considering Sony is pushing this new internet show as kind of their own version of the Nintendo Direct, which is meant to deliver news and updates to all PlayStation fans.
In the off chance that it does release this year, I would be off in my previous prediction that it would release next year instead, which I based entirely on the recent wrap-up of filming the CG scenes for the game. Oh well.
The Last of Us 2 has no release date as of yet. It is a PlayStation 4 exclusive title.
