Laverne Cox dished about the fourth season of Orange is the New Black at the 73rd annual Golden Globes on Sunday night. The actress plays transgender inmate Sophia Burset on the Netflix original series and her character was seen being sent to solitary confinement in the end of season 3 after a season-long feud with Gloria (Selenis Leyva).
"Sophia being placed in solitary confinement is such a real reality that a lot of trans people experience every day in prison, so I love that we go there and deal with this issue," said Cox to PEOPLE.
The actress also revealed that the new season will tackle issues in the criminal justice system. "Our brilliant creator Jenji Kohan has this amazing vision," said Cox to E! News' Ryan Seacrest on E!'s Live From the Red Carpet on Sunday. "We just finished shooting season four and we're going deeper into the issues of these women and the criminal justice system and it's getting even more real if you can believe it."
As for Sophia and Gloria making up, Cox previously told TVGuide that reconciliation is not in the cards.
“I can’t imagine,” said Cox. “As a viewer watching, seeing how much remorse Gloria has, I always like to believe there's a potential for forgiveness, but this is pretty bad. This is really, really bad.”
That said, Leyva's outlook is more optimistic. "We don't know what's coming yet ... but they are good people, and you see that individually," said Leyva to TVGuide.com. "The audience got to see that these women are having conflict. And it's not about a personal attack on each other. It's more about their children, and how they're desperately trying to hold onto some kind of control."
Netflix has completed filming season 4 of Orange is the New Black. While an official release date has not been announced, fans can expect the new season to be released in the summer of 2016.
