Netflix recently announced Orange Is The New Black season 4 will release June 27. Whether or not the date has any merit is yet to be determined, as the online streaming platform unveiled season 3 earlier than the announced date. (Not that we’re complaining!)
In addition to the release date, Netflix shared a teaser of what is in store for the new season. The clip (see below) didn’t divulge much about storylines but it does reiterate the fact that there are new prisoners coming to Litchfield penitentiary.
Prison overcrowding will definitely be an ongoing issue next season.
"This season really drops in a totally different way," said Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee, in an interview with Vogue. "The prison is becoming overpopulated. All the new inmates really add more tension, and believe me, it is tense."
According to Laverne Cox, who plays inmate Sophia Burset, the new season will tackle issues in the criminal justice system.
"Our brilliant creator Jenji Kohan has this amazing vision," said Cox to E! News ' Ryan Seacrest on E!'s Live From the Red Carpet. "We just finished shooting season four and we're going deeper into the issues of these women and the criminal justice system and it's getting even more real if you can believe it."
The teaser also showed Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne), suggesting that her character will no longer be confined in Maximum Security and will finally be back.
Additionally, fans see Taystee behind a desk. Whether she scores a desk job in prison or the scene was part of a flashback is yet to be determined. Brooks revealed in her interview with Vogue that her character will be evolving.
"We left off with Taystee being the mom, taking over this role that Vee was in," said Brooks in the interview. "We’re going to see how she deals with that."
