Players now have the chance to try the new PvP content of Overwatch 2 when it launches in early access this October 4. It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The game features a new 5v5 multiplayer format with cross-platform play and cross-platform progression. In addition, it’s set to offer a new experience with a free-to-play model.
In a statement, Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra revealed that they’re excited to finally roll out Overwatch 2 this October 4. In addition to offering a new competitive vision, Ybarra shared that players can look forward to new content and a reimagining of heroes and maps. He added that this is the start of the always-on and always-evolving era of the series.
New Tank Hero
At launch, players have the chance to try out the newest tank hero, and it’s none other than Junker Queen, the Australian-born ruler of Junkertown.
The Junker Queen is the second new hero to be introduced in the game and the 34th overall. The first one was Sojourn, a high-mobility, railgun-wielding hero and was a former Overwatch captain having cybernetic capabilities.
More details on the Junker Queen will be revealed during the Overwatch 2 Reveal Event livestream on June 16 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Fans can watch it on YouTube or Twitch.
New Content
Besides the new hero, players can also expect to see new and iconic international locations available at the game launch. These include the New Queen Street in Toronto and Midtown Manhattan.
There’s also the new game mode known as Push. This is a symmetrical map type where teams fight to take control and move a centrally-located robot deeper into enemy territory.
Founder's Pack
As thanks to the original players, the Overwatch 2 Founder’s Pack will be available free in-game to all existing players who already own Overwatch. The Founder’s Pack includes two epic skins and an exclusive founder’s icon. It also has a surprise gift to be revealed before the game is released this October 4.
To get the Founder’s Pack, players need to own Overwatch before June 23 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
