Passengers is about a generation ship heading for a new starship, its human cargo in hibernation (cryonic or otherwise) for the duration. Then Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence (there’s no indication they’re characters, it’s just PRATT+JLAW… in SPACE) wake up early. How many years early? Well, it’s hard to tell, because Chris Pratt can’t pronounce the word ‘ninety.’ I scrunched my ear holes up against the computer speakers and replayed his pronunciation six times, trying to figure out whether they woke up nine years early or 90. Thankfully, the description on the YouTube page confirms: it’s 90.
Also, who wants to bet only Pratt woke up early and then activated Lawrence because he’s lonely and a selfish dick? That’s the twist. It must be, right?
Here’s the trailer for Passengers:
So we’ve got some good special effects, a lot of staring out windows at various shiny space things, a robot Michael Sheen and a brief glimpse of Laurence Fishburne to assure us there will be other characters at some point (seems like a spoiler). That’s Passengers.
Ha, I just looked the movie up on Wikipedia and it says “The central theme in Passengers is forgiveness,” so that transforms my twist guess into a massive spoiler. Sorry.
Passengers comes out Christmas Day.
