In case you haven’t heard, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is massively popular. As a testament to how ridiculously successful the game continues to be on every platform it touches, it has a new milestone to celebrate. In the 48 hours following its debut on Xbox One via the Game Preview program, PUBG was downloaded over 1 million times.
Keep in mind that this is still very much a game in its Early Access stage, with a "full" release on Dec. 20. Merely the promise that Bluehole will continue to tweak and improve the game to perfection is enough to push players to buy, despite myriad issues. It's considerably further behind the PC version, which just received a new map in the form of the desert area Miramar last week. Several features won’t come to the Xbox One version until a later date, so this level of player interest even without these additional mechanics is impressive.
It's proof positive that, like it or not, the game is making waves in the industry and setting records that must feel like some sort of fever dream for developer Bluehole and PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene. Incidentally, PUBG has racked up sales of more than 24 million PC copies since it launched in March 2017.
Microsoft will bundle new Xbox One X systems beginning Sunday, Dec. 17 with free download codes for PUBG , a promotion set to run through Dec. 31. You'll need to check with specific retailers whether the code is included with your purchase, or you can buy your console via the Microsoft Store to make sure your $30 game is included.
For $499, you'll get the new Xbox One X console that launched Nov. 7 as well as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds , which is essentially the first bundle the system has received since it released. If you’re trying to decide between versions to purchase, however, you’ll want to stick to the more advanced PC release for now.
