Sony held a PlayStation 5 Pro preview event where it showcased the games that are coming to the upgraded console. Fans also got a glimpse of the improvements that the new unit has over the base console.
Many developers of high-profile titles participated in the event to showcase how the games will take advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro's specs. These include Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part 2.
PlayStation 5 Pro Preview Event
The PlayStation 5 Pro has three key features that lead architect Mark Cerny explained during the announcement presentation. The first is the unit's upgraded GPU which will allow for 45% faster rendering for gameplay.
The second feature is the PlayStation 5 Pro's AI upscaler and the last is the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) that will improve graphics even further. All of these features will be seen in action in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, according to IGN.
Insomniac Games director of core technology Mike Fitzgerald said that the first major improvement of the PlayStation 5 Pro is the PSSR. He said that it let them improve their previous upscaling mode.
They can now render at a lower resolution and bring it up to a full 4K while still getting tons of extra detail from the picture. He added that the new ray-tracing hardware in the new unit was nice to have.
One of the games that was showcased during the preview was Horizon Forbidden West. This was where the PlayStation 5 Pro showed the "best of both worlds" of high fidelity and high performance, the PlayStation Blog said.
The Performance mode difference between the base console and the pro unit is that the PlayStation 5 Pro allows for the same high framerate while also improving image quality.
Improvements Over the Base Console
Furthermore, this mode benefits the game's volumetric effects, such as misty sunbeams being free of distracting shimmers and strobing. These were some of the issues that players experienced in the PlayStation 5's stock Performance mode.
The preview event sought to market the PlayStation 5 Pro and justify its $699 price tag. Another game that was highlighted was F1 24. The game's PC version continuously pushes the limits of its visual features.
Developer Codemasters has been hard at work with consistent yearly releases. The PlayStation 5 Pro supposedly has enough power to deliver a 4K 60Hz quality mode with multiple Rapid Trigger (RT) effects.
Many of the improvements come in the form of improved indirect lighting. Much of the new lighting detail is visible on the PlayStation 5 Pro on the shaded streets of mid-afternoon Monaco, according to Eurogamer.
