The latest Pokémon Go Holiday 2017 event will run until Jan. 4, 2018. The latest event boasts the appearance of more Water and Ice-type Pokémon and there are a handful of Pokémon that trainers will want to catch in bulk to prepare for the inevitable introduction of Generation 4 and the Sinnoh Region Pokémon in future Pokémon Go updates.
Check out our list of crucial Ice Type Pokémon to catch before Gen 4 arrives.
SNEASEL
Sneasel was introduced in the Pokémon Go Gen 2 update. Its spawn rate is rather low so the Holiday 2017 event really helps trainers who never came across one of these Dark and Ice-type Pokémon.
In Generation 4, Sneasel evolves into Weavile through trading while it holds the Razor Claw. In Pokémon Go, it will likely need this same item once it’s introduced into the game along with 50 Sneasel Candy. Use this event to get as many Sneasels as you can. At least catch one that can walk with you and gather candy.
SWINUB
Swinub already evolves into Piloswine after using 50 Swinub Candy, but trainers will want to catch a whole lot more Swinub before Gen 4 is released.
The Sinnoh Region introduces Mamoswine, the evolved form of Piloswine and you’ll need a lot more Candy to evolve it. Similar to Horsea evolving into Kingdra, Swinub now has a second evolution and will need 100 Swinub Candy.
Piloswine evolves into Mamoswine via level up when it learns Ancient Power. In Pokémon Go, Piloswine it will likely evolve with just 100 Candy.
SNORUNT
Snorunt was finally put into Pokémon Go during the Holiday Event and while it evolves into Glalie after using 50 Snorunt Candy, trainers need to catch even more for when Sinnoh arrives.
In Gen 4, Snorunt has a split evolution where it evolves into Froslass after using the Dawn Stone on a female Snorunt. It’s uncertain how Pokémon Go will go about this, but Froslass will likely require another 50 Snorunt Candy on a female Snorunt. Pokémon Go implemented genders with the Gen 2 update.
