The release of the Hoenn Region Pokémon in Pokémon Go are almost here! The next update will bring the 2017 Holiday Event to the popular mobile game and with it, new Pokémon.
Niantic announced the 2017 Holiday Event will see the return of the special Santa Hat Pikachu as well as an increase in the spawns of Ice-type Pokémon. This includes Ice and Water-type Pokémon from the Hoenn Region that weren’t available in the first Gen 3 update.
The special Pikachu and new Pokémon appear in the wild starting Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. EST. . This event will run through Jan. 4 so be sure to go out there and catch some new Pokémon.
The Hoenn Pokémon coming in the next Pokémon Go update were not mentioned by name, but the new promotional image provided by Niantic shows off some of the new Gen 3 Pokémon including Feebas, Milotic, Sharpedo, Snorunt, Relicanth, Luvdisc and Wailmer.
Taking into account some of the evolutions and pre-evolutions of these revealed Pokémon, trainers should also expect Carvanha (the pre-evolution of Sharpedo), Glalie (the evolution of Snorunt) and Wailord (the evolution of Wailmer).
Some Gen 3 Pokémon not shown in the new promotional image but fall into the Ice and Water-type categories of Hoenn include: Spheal, Sealeo, Walrein, Barboach, Whiscash, Corphish, Crawdaunt, Lotad, Lombre and Ludicolo.
Niantic’s announcement also mentions the opportunity for trainers to receive one free incubator each day from Dec. 22 to Dec. 25. These free incubators will be one-use only but anyone looking to hatch eggs faster with more incubators will want to take advantage of this event.
The Pokémon Go shop will also begin to sell special boxes that will include Super Incubators, Lure Modules and Star Pieces, a brand new item to Pokémon Go. Star Pieces will increase the amount of Stardust earned for 30 minutes after they’re activated.
Couple the Star Piece with the new Dynamic Weather feature that increases the Stardust obtained when capturing a Pokémon of the designated type and you’ll be able to power-up your favorite Pokémon in no time.
