PSN Outage Payback: Sony Finally Rolls Out PS Plus Compensation—But Not Everyone's Getting It Yet

The affected players of the previous PSN outage are not happy about the compensation.

Sony has formally started paying PlayStation Plus subscribers after the prolonged PSN outage in Feb. 2025. If you are a PS Plus subscriber, you can now check if you have been given the promised five-day subscription extension.

However, many players see this as Sony's bare minimum. For others, it just doesn't sit right as a gift.

Last month, a record-long outage took place in the history of PSN. For those who barely recall it, the downtime lasted close to a complete day and hindered millions of players from using online services, participating in multiplayer games, or even cloud saving. GameRant reports that the unplanned outage caused widespread inconvenience, and Sony responded by declaring a five-day extension of PS Plus membership as reparation.

But while Sony had promised this auto-extension, it did not clarify when such auto-extension was going to apply. This uncertain situation left people asking when and if they will be getting that compensation.

Now, reports confirm that Sony has started rolling out the five-day PS Plus extension, but the distribution is happening in phases. As a result, some subscribers have already received the extension, while others are still waiting.

How to Check If You've Received the Five-Day PS Plus Extension

In contrast to mass account updates, Sony is not prompting email notifications or confirmations for the PS Plus compensation. Users instead have to manually check if their subscription has been renewed.

For PlayStation 5 Users:

  1. Launch the Settings menu.
  2. Go to Users and Accounts.
  3. Choose Account, then proceed to Payment and Subscriptions.
  4. Click on Subscriptions and see your renewed PS Plus renewal date.

For PlayStation App Users:

  1. Launch the PlayStation App.
  2. Tap on the PlayStation Store icon.
  3. Click the menu icon in the top right.
  4. Choose Subscriptions Management to check whether your PS Plus end date has been renewed.

Most PlayStation gamers have reported that their PS Plus subscription has been renewed for five days, although some have yet to see theirs updated.

Is Five Days of PS Plus Compensation Enough?

The five-day grace period has been met with a mixed response from PlayStation gamers. While some welcome the gesture, others feel that five days do not adequately compensate for the hassle of almost 24 hours of lost gaming.

The absence of email notifications has also confused, with some gamers unsure if they have been compensated.

Some PlayStation gamers think that Sony could have done better than rolling out the limited-time compensation.

Also, Sony's staggered deployment means that while some subscribers already notice their extended renewal date, others are left hanging, not knowing when their compensation will be received.

Hopefully, the gaming giant will finish the deployment in the next few days to make sure all impacted users get their guaranteed extension.

Gaming Bible spotted the comments from some frustrated PSN gamers across different platforms.

"Now my subscription is gonna renew AFTER the Lunar New Year Sale ffs..." one user wrote.

"Nooo, why the free additional 5 days??" another user said.
