One of the most long-awaited sequels in the history of modern gaming is set to have its voice heard at this year's E3, and its presenters may just be the most qualified to do it some justice.
For over a year now, the long-awaited sequel to one of Double Fine’s finest games, Psychonauts, has eluded the media at large. Following a very successful campaign on Fig, which overshot its target of $3.300.000 by more than half a million dollars, Psychonauts 2 entered development. It was not without its delays though, as the project’s release date has been moved a couple of times before finally settling on this year – hopefully. With that in mind, things are starting to look good, as E3 has confirmed that Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 will be present during the event’s most prestigious panels, the E3 Coliseum. Check out the official tweet below.
To add to this wonderful surprise, it looks like the game will be presented by none other than Tim Schafer himself, who was the creator of the original Psychonauts and the founder of Double Fine. He won’t be alone, though, as coming with him is renowned actor, musician, comedian, and gamer Jack Black.
The special panel during E3 Coliseum will air sometime between June 11 and June 13, with the final date yet to be announced. Double Fine will also release the first demo for the title, which makes their appearance all the more exciting. It’s kind of surprising that Jack Black will be there, but if he had to have an E3 presence, there probably isn’t a better candidate than Double Fine; the actor has lent his likeness and voice to one of the developer’s games, Brutal Legend. Of course, the actor has recently made his move to livestreaming and general broadcasting culture, with his YouTube channel JablinskiGames getting significant attention. It’s also not impossible that he has a part in Psychonauts 2 itself, and that may be the reason why he will be presenting it together with Schafer.
2019 may be the year that Double Fine once again grabs the gaming world’s attention, with big releases upcoming, like Rad, their first rogue-like title. Here’s hoping that Schafer actually considers a sequel to Brutal Legend as well.
Psychonauts 2 is currently in development for PC and consoles. We may learn more about a final release date during their panel on E3.
