Remember PUBG? Well, of course, you do. It’s one of the most popular battle royale games in the industry, which inspired dozens of other games. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds became such a hit that almost every other major developer started pushing out their own BR game. Now, there is a good chance that we might get a sequel to the game that inspired it all.
According to a well-known PUBG leakster, PlayerIGN, PUBG Corp (now called Krafton) is currently developing PUBG 2 and PUBG Mobile 2. The mobile version of the sequel is being developed by the same team that made PUBG Lite. Whereas PUBG 2 is handled by the company’s main studio in Seoul. The information was first revealed by a Korean media outlet.
Since PUBG's launch in 2017, there have been many other BR games. Some got similar success while others failed. Games like Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Call of Duty: Warzone received similar success. While Black Ops 4 Battle Royale mode and Battlefield 5: Firestorm mode failed badly. Even Ubisoft released a BR game called Hyper Scape, which unfortunately didn’t receive the same popularity.
While PUBG is still quite popular, there's no denying it got some serious competition now. Maybe Krafton thought that they needed a sequel to keep things fresh. The game currently has the third-highest concurrent players count of over 250,000 players. It’s just behind Counter-Strike Global Offensive and Dota 2.
It’s also reported that PUBG Game Director, Brendan Greene isn’t working on the sequel. That’s not surprising because Greene has said before that he doesn’t want a sequel. He is currently working on The Callisto Protocol, is a third-person horror game set in the PUBG universe far into the future.
So, what do you think? Are you interested in PUBG 2 and PUBG Mobile 2? Or would you rather play the original version? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
