PUBG: Battlegrounds just went free-to-play, which means more people can now try and see if they can get that valuable chicken dinner. With Cross-Platform Play, friends can now play together or against each other, regardless of their platform. There’s a catch though since it’s limited to consoles.
So, this is only for those on Xbox, PlayStation, and Stadia. PC players have no choice but to play with other PC players.
Now that we’ve talked about it, let’s look into some of the details on how this feature works. To start things off, the Cross-Platform Play feature can be turned on/off in “Settings – Gameplay – General Settings – Cross-Platform Play.” Even if the feature is off, the game prompts players if they want it activated. This happens when a match can’t be found after a specific time.
Cross-Party Play
There’s also the Cross-Party Play where players can:
- Party up with players on other console platforms.
- Search for, friend, and/or invite players on other console platforms.
- Mute players from other console platforms in the lobby and during a match.
- Join custom matches created on other platforms.
All of those just mentioned can be found on the Social screen. Players can access it by pressing the View button (Xbox/Stadia) or the Square button (PlayStation) while on the main menu screen.
Team Finder
Another feature that players can expect is the Team Finder, which lets them connect with others before the match starts, instead of being randomly matched up with others in the pre-game zone. You can let friends and other players know that you're looking for a team and wait for their invitation to be accepted.
Here are other details of Team Finder:
- For players not in a team, they can toggle team finder to let friends or other players know you are looking for a team. They are then listed on the team finder player list, waiting to be invited by a searching player.
- Those already in a team or who want to create their own team can invite players from the team finder list.
