Railway Empire has players come up with their very own rail network through a combination of trains, railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories, and even tourist attractions. Besides structures, players need to make sure that there is enough manpower to keep the train service efficient. Upgrades on trains and infrastructures are available using more than 300 technologies. Players also must make railways profitable and beat up to three rivals. In defeating other tycoons, players may choose to use less than “nice” tactics options like industrial espionage or sabotage.
