Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020 was a total blast, featuring a ton of surprises and showing off many upcoming games. The show gave us a sneak peek at Fall Guys Season 2, shared additional details of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and revealed a Star Wars-themed pack for The Sims 4.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart also made an appearance on the stream, showcasing an extended version of the gameplay trailer that was initially shown at Sony's PlayStation 5 conference earlier this year. The game not only looks incredible with its jaw-dropping visual fidelity, but also plays buttery smooth.
If you were spellbound by the game's presentation and forgot to catch up on some interesting tidbits, we have them covered for you. The game's creative director, Marcus Smith, and lead designer, Mike Daily, had an interesting answer to a question regarding Rift Apart's frame rate and resolution. Smith and Daily stated that Rift Apart can be played at either 4K and 30FPS, or at a lower resolution with 60FPS. Players will be able to select these options within the game. Since most console games lock resolution and frame rate options, it's great to see that Rift Apart had chosen to let players decide their preferences.
The performance over visuals has been a great debate in the console gaming community and it seems that Insomniac has a solution for the problem. With next-gen consoles being technical powerhouses, we think that other games should also be encouraged to implement this feature.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is easily the most ambitious game that Insomniac has ever made. The developer has taken the characters, the unique universes, and weaponry from the Ratchet and Clank series, and brought them to a new game for a new console.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is releasing on PS4 and PS5. A release date has not been confirmed as of right now.
