Nioh was a great surprise to many gamers, especially Soulsborne fans, when it launched in 2017. Developed by Team Ninja, Nioh is not only tough, but also offers epic action combat and an interesting story set in the Sengoku period of Japan. Nioh soon became a beloved game and it's a success definitely warranted the sequel Nioh 2. Nioh 2 is arriving on March 13 for the PlayStation 4 and some time in November in PC. Multiple editions of Nioh 2 can be pre-ordered right now.
In case you're going to pick up Nioh 2, we recommend that you play the original Nioh to stay along with the story. Nioh 2 is set in 1555 and technically, the game is a prequel to the original Nioh, which stars a nameless protagonist who is part human and part Yokai. Yokai are supernatural creatures in Japanese folklore.
As far as we know, Nioh 2's story is about the protagonist squaring off against Yokai during a widespread conflict across Japan. The game will be using real historical figures throughout the entire adventure. In some ways, even the protagonist is connected to historical figures. It is said that the human part of the protagonist will be Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a samurai and the ruler known to bring the Sengoku period to a close. What's interesting is that players will be able to create their own character in Nioh 2 and we are curious to see how this mechanic will play out with real-life historical connections.
Talking about the combat, Nioh 2 takes inspiration from the original title. The protagonist will be able to use four different fighting techniques - Ninja, Samurai, Onmyo Magic Style, and a new Shifting Style. Regarding weapons, players will be able to use Dual Hatchets and a Switchglaive that features multiple configurations. The new mechanic was shown off in the closed and open beta for Nioh 2 in 2019.
Nioh 2 is expected to offer a lengthy adventure and you can also invite two of your friends to assist you in the war-ravaged lands.
