In an official announcement from developer Gunfire Games, Remnant: From The Ashes will be released in August, only four months from now. The upcoming title is set to be a looter-shooter that builds upon the mechanics that the genre is known for, while adding its own unique twists to offer a new gameplay experience. Remnant: From The Ashes is a brand new IP, and was first announced last year by Gunfire Games, under the same team that created the Darksiders franchise. Here’s the official trailer if you want to have a look:
Remnant: From The Ashes is a meant to be played as a three-player cooperative action game with item progression mechanics characteristic of the looter-shooter genre. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Remnant has players fight their away across a procedurally generated environment beset on multiple fronts by mythical beasts and creatures of legend. Gameplay involves stamina-based melee combat and ranged combat in the way of a third-person shooter (think The Division or Warframe).
As with most looter-shooters, the name of the game is to fight enemies, collect better gear, rinse, and repeat. However, Remnant: From The Ashes promises to be a little more nuanced than that. The game features character progression, weapons upgrading, and a seemingly substantial crafting system.
Remnant: From The Ashes is scheduled to come out on August 20, 2019. The game is being published by Perfect World, and will launch on the company’s very own game launcher program called Arc. Remnant will also be available on Steam for PC, and is being developed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.
Based on the official trailer and reveal video introducing the world of Remnant: From The Ashes, the game is looking to be an exciting new take on the popular looter-shooter genre. The game’s theme and mythical overlays are reminiscent of the Darksiders franchise, but we don’t think that’s a bad thing. After all, it was Darksiders unique approach to lore and story-telling that played a big role in its success as a hack-n-slash action game back in 2010.
