rFactor 2 is a touring car racing sim that offers a lot of features emphasizing realism. These include real-time day and night lighting transitions, rubber chunks that roll off tires that can affect grip, and tires sustaining damage from poor driving, among many other things.
Anyway, the May 2022 Update for rFactor 2 introduces two new cars and three new tracks via paid DLC. Read further to learn more.
New Cars
You can drive two new cars around the race tracks. The first is the Toyota Corolla BTCC of Speedworks Motorsport. This front-wheel-drive machine is relatively easy to get used to, but mastering this beast is incredibly challenging.
The second car is the Infiniti Q50 (V37) BTCC. This touring car has been a dominant vehicle in recent years in the British Touring Car Championship. This is one of the most incredible representations of what rear-wheel drive, modern touring car racing can be.
New Tracks
The Donington Park is one of the latest paid DLC tracks in rFactor 2. This 2.498-mile track has a healthy mix of fast-flowing turns and technical sections, perfect for most racers.
Another new track is Brands Hatch - one of the finest and most well-known international circuits in Great Britain. This track is a bit more challenging than the first due to its uneven road surface, fast corners, and a distinct lack of run-off area.
The last paid DLC track in the May 2022 Update is the Laguna Seca. This track is famous for its “Corkscrew” corner sections with all of the bumps, twists, turns, and undulations of the real thing. This circuit is pretty much the venue of choice for most drivers.
Update Highlights
- Added a visual driving line feature, this can be toggled from settings
- Added an option to set the amount of water on roads at the start of a session
- New algorithm for wet road calculations affecting how quickly surfaces get wet and dry, taking into account drainage, humidity, ambient temperature, and sky weather conditions
- Added spark effects
- Decreased interval of Static Mapper updates from 5 minutes to 10 seconds. This should result in smoother lighting changes at dawn or dusk and as weather conditions change
- Implemented an enhanced cooling system for oil and water. This includes new parameters in the .hdv file. The new model includes:
- Direct heat transfer between water and oil
- Oil radiator
- Switchover Thermostat
- Added configurable gear shift protection
- New Sound Engine
- New 3D rendering
- Vastly increased amount of simultaneously playing effects
- Environmental effects and filtering system
