The Riftbreaker: Metal Terror is now available on all platforms. Aside from the new story content, there are a ton of new features that have been added to the game.
New Weapons
With the emergence of new threats, it is only fitting that Mr. Riggs gets some new toys to play with as well. Four new weapons are available to the mech. The first is the Lightning Gun which can electrocute swarming enemies à la Emperor Palpatine from the Star Wars franchise.
The second is the Heavy Plasma Cannon, a new weapon capable of blasting powerful plasma projectiles at the enemy with high splash damage potential. It also has an alternate mode which turns this cannon into a shield that protects you from incoming fire.
The third is the Laser Sword. Although this melee weapon deals slightly less damage than its regular counterpart, it does have a much faster attack rate. And the last weapon of the bunch is the Chainsaw. This weapon really needs no introduction; just turn it on and let it rip!
New Consumables and Defense Systems
New tools, defensive arrays, and consumables are available in The Riftbreaker: Metal Terror. The Bioscanner turret is one of the two new consumables added in the latest patch. This item deploys a turret that scans all objects of interest within range as long as the battery lasts.
The Mini Miner is another consumable item that can be placed on any ore deposits in the game. It will mine resources for a short time and will deliver them to your storage automatically.
For defenses, you can use the new Morphium Tower. It protects your base by forming massive spikes that can shred pesky alien threats when they come too close. What makes this thing interesting is it can be placed on bodies of water; this tower also generates shields for buildings surrounding it.
The Lightning Tower, as the name suggests, is an energy-based defensive system that can shock enemies within range.
Survival Mode Rework
Survival mode in The Riftbreaker: Metal Terror received notable changes. Here are some of them:
- The research trees for Survival and Campaign are now completely separate.
- Each Survival Mode Biome now has a slightly different starting loadout for the Mech.
- The Alien Research tech tree no longer requires a Laboratory to be built in Survival Mode. This means that you can start researching those technologies right away, giving you access to more tech to fit your strategy and playstyle.
The Riftbreaker: Metal Terror expansion and its free update are now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
