Despite the very positive reviews of Riot Games' new idle battler game mode, Teamfight Tactics, devs were quick to shoot down the possibility of the game coming to mobile devices. The decision has left many in the community both confused and a little disappointed, considering that idle battlers similar to Teamfight Tactics are being developed with mobile devices in mind.
Riot Games is joining in on the Auto Chess craze with its very own Teamfight Tactics, a new and unique game mode for League of Legends. Similar to Auto Chess and Dota Underlords, Teamfight Tactics will make use of the same turn-based strategy tactics and full-on idling set in Riot Games' fantasy world of Runeterra.
However, despite the excellent gameplay and well-received mechanics, Teamfight Tactics does show several disadvantages compared to its direct competition, Auto Chess, and the upcoming Dota Underlords. Because both Auto Chess and Underlords will have direct ties to Valve, and therefore the Steam platform, cross-play and cross-communication will definitely be on the table for these two new idle battlers. Additionally, without mobile availability, League of Legends players will have to choose between playing League and playing Teamfight Tactics, instead of playing both at the same time, i.e. when players are queueing for their matches.
For Riot Games, Teamfight Tactics isn't a standalone game the way League of Legends' competitors are treating their idle battler titles. Instead, they see Teamfight Tactics as a new and exciting game mode, similar to League of Legends' rotating game modes that have been implemented for years. Of course, having a mobile version of Teamfight Tactics might prove to be very beneficial, but we will have to wait for Riot Games to finish working on a possible mobile game project before we can see Teamfight Tactics go mobile.
In any case, only time will tell if Teamfight Tactics will hold its own or possibly even dominate the new genre of MOBA-inspired idle-battlers. League of Legends is definitely one of the most played competitive online games today, and Teamfight Tactics has already proven itself to be immensely popular in the League of Legends community.
