IMDB’s fact checkers seemed to have approved adding Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a The Rock) to the IMDB page of the 2017 remake of Jumanji (1995). Oh P.S., Columbia Pictures has confirmed they’re producing a remake of Jumanji, and judging from the forum post titles on its IMDB page (“Petition to stop Jumanji remake,” “Tickets to spit on Robin Williams Grave... Now on Sale,” “Remaking Jumanji is like remaking the Original Star Wars Trilogy or (sic)”), everybody feels the same way about this as you do.
Here’s a bonus forum post to make you feel better: “Zathura not enough?”
Surprising though it seems — the storyline being: “A ‘re-imagining’ of the 1995 film, Jumanji.” — either a sequel or a remake of Jumanji has been in the works for quite some time. Robin Williams was rumored to be involved with a Jumanji 2 going as far as back as 2002, but according to The Guardian, no one was able “to settle on the right storyline.”
Inverse has a brilliant write-up of everything known about the 2017 remake of Jumanji , but the highlights are that Jake Kasdan, involved with New Girl, Freaks & Geeks, Walk Hard and Orange County, has been hired as the director (Meaning, enjoy the creative vision featured below), and that Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are credited as screenwriters.
Rosenberg has written for movies such as Con Air, Spider-Man (2002) and Kangaroo Jack, while Pinker has written for stuff like Lost, Fringe and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).
Kevin Hart is also starring in 2017’s Captain Underpants.
