Rumors are going around online that the release date for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Witcher has been leaked online. Based on The Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski that inspired the award-winning game franchise, the pilot episode for The Witcher starring Henry Cavill will air on December 20, according to the leak.
Earlier this year, media streaming mogul Netflix announced that it would be adapting The Witcher to a full-fledged TV series on its platform. Starring Henry Cavill as main protagonist Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher series is expected to come out some time in Q4 of 2019. If the leak is to be believed, we now have a more specific timeline with the first episode releasing on December 20, 2019.
The reported leak originated from the celebrity news site Recapped. The report indicated the release date for the first season, but also announced that there will be a Season Two for the yet-to-be-released TV series. It was also indicated that filming for Season Two will begin sometime in December or January.
Of course, there is currently no way to confirm this report, so take it with a grain of salt. Netflix itself has made no official announcements on the matter, and while Recapped has been fairly accurate on its rumors and reports, it would be better to wait for official statements from Netflix before betting big on the rumored release date.
Fans around the world are getting pretty excited over the upcoming Witcher series. While there's plenty of hardcore gaming fans in the community that instinctively keep their expectations low when it comes to film adaptations of video games, there may be hope for this one. After all, if the just-released Detective Pikachu movie proved anything, it's that it is possible to make a great movie out of a video game franchise.
