There are different ways to enjoy an open world MMORPG. It’s usually PvE, but some prefer challenges on PvP. In PvE, some players do everything they can to avoid death. This is because in many games, death means a loss in experience points. RuneScape is shaking things up with the launch of Fran’s Free Deaths.
So what does it do? For four weeks, players get free deaths across different bosses. That means everyone has the chance to take on the big bad with zero cost. If anything, this is a good way to learn how bosses move, especially for those who haven’t met them yet.
It’s not only for the benefit of the players. The RuneScape Team is also using this opportunity to get useful data to be informed on future decisions. It seems the team wants to reassess death costs in general.
For Frank’s Free Deaths, the featured bosses for this week are:
- Barrows (Solo)
- Barrows: Rise of the Six (1-4 players)
- Nex: Angel of Death (7 players recommended)
A Merry Christmas
Frank’s Free Deaths arrives in the game courtesy of an update, which also brings Christmas. Indeed, it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas and even the bosses get a festive look. Some of the seasonal in-game events have already started like the annual Advent Calendar. Don’t forget to work your way towards the special reward, the Horizon Sword.
Another in-game event is the Golden Party Hat Hunt, which runs through January 3. This one has players finish different tasks for the chance to grab the headgear of a RuneScape legend. That’s said, don’t forget to join the Wintumber Aurora Yak Track, running until January 9.
