There have been many hints over several months that the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 may feature a USB Type-C port instead of a micro USB port. Now SamMobile claims to have confirmed the feature will be included on the upcoming flagship phablet. The tech blog is a quite reliable source for Samsung launch rumors, and has been among the publications reporting on USB Type-C rumors for the Galaxy Note 6.
Many recent flagship smartphones, including the LG G5, HTC 10, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X all feature the USB Type-C type port for fast charging and for universal port insertion. However, Samsung’s recent smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, both feature microUSB ports. Some have suggested Samsung intended to focus on its wireless charging technology by retaining microUSB ports. Samsung has also explained that the microUSB ports for Gear VR as a reason for retaining the same ports on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
With this supposed confirmation, SamMobile suggests that with the Galaxy Note 6 could come a refresh of the Gear VR headset. The last new model came out with the Galaxy Note 5 in 2015 and is compatible with the Note 5, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. But if the Galaxy Note 6 features a USB Type-C port, there will need to be a Gear VR headset compatible with the device.
Other rumors connected to the Galaxy Note 6 suggest the smartphone will also include an infrared autofocus feature for its camera. Tech blog AndroidGeeks suggests the manufacturer is currently testing this feature for the Galaxy Note 6. The upcoming smartphone is expected to feature the same 12MP camera and f/1.7 aperture camera seen on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge; however, Samsung is expected to continue its endeavours to improve low-light photography on its mobile camera. Recent reports suggest that Samsung plans to implement technology from its NX line of professional cameras into its mobile cameras.
Other rumored upgrades for the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 include a larger screen size and higher RAM and battery capacities. The device is also expected to be water resistant, like the Galaxy S7, with IP68 certification.
