Samsung has confirmed that Verizon models of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will have access to Samsung Pay once the smartphones are officially available Friday. The manufacturer confirmed to tech blog Android Police that while the handsets won’t have Samsung Pay preloaded like handsets from other carriers; users will be able to download the Samsung Pay application from the Google Play Store starting March 11.
News of Verizon Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge models shipping without Samsung Pay broke Tuesday , with some Verizon Galaxy S7 early adopters reporting that they have been unable to find the mobile payment application on the Google Play Store. Results instead yield Android Pay as the first option, followed by Google Wallet. Other options include Capital One Wallet, Paypal, Starbucks and McDonalds, but no Samsung Pay.
Several carriers, including Verizon, announced in October 15 they would support Samsung Pay on upcoming devices. However, Verizon has also part of the Softcard group, which collaborates with Google on Android Pay and the carrier has opted to support Android Pay over Samsung Pay, according to Android Police . Users will easily find the Android Pay application within the Google folders on Verizon Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets.
But Verizon users will have only two more days before they have access to Samsung Pay. Reports indicate that the manufacturer will announce a major Samsung Pay promotion on Friday to coincide with the official Galaxy S7 launch.
